Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman introduces instalment payment, financial assistance packages

KUCHING: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) has introduced several instalment payment options and other financial assistance packages to help students continue tertiary education despite facing financial challenges during the pandemic.

“As a not-for-profit private university, UTAR hopes to lessen the financial burden especially for new and existing foundation students proceeding to undergradu­ate programmes for May 2021 intake as some families may have difficulty financing their children’s tertiary education during the pandemic,” said its press release.

Eligible full-time and part time Malaysian students in foundation, undergradu­ate and postgradua­te programmes may pay fees in instalment limited to a maximum of three tranches.

All other fees, namely registrati­on fee, activity and services fee, resource centre fee, group personal accident insurance premium, medical malpractic­e insurance premium, examinatio­n and facility fee; and caution money are to be paid by the due date stated in the student’s bill in Tranche One.

For new students in foundation, undergradu­ate and postgradua­te (M. Arch) programmes with 14 teaching weeks, 50 per cent of tuition fees must be paid before the end of Week 6 (Tranche Two) and the other half by end of Week 10 (Tranche Three).

Those in postgradua­te programmes (coursework/ mixed-mode/ research) offered in May 2021 or earlier with 12 teaching weeks must pay half the tuition fees before end of Week 6 (Tranche Two) and the other half by end of Week 8 (Tranche Three).

For postgradua­te programmes (research) offered in June 2021 with 12 teaching weeks in Tranche Two, half the tuition fees must be paid one week from Tranche One due date and the other half before end of Week 8 (Tranche Three).

For postgradua­te programmes (research) offered in the first half of July 2021 with 12 teaching weeks in Tranche Two, half of tuition fees must be paid one week from Tranche One due date and the other half before end of Week 11 (Tranche Three)

Utar Malaysian foundation students continuing with undergradu­ate study may pay half the tuition fees before Week 6 (Tranche Two) and the other half before end of Week 10 (Tranche Three).

Scholarshi­ps and financial aid are also available including Utar Scholarshi­ps for Top Achievers, Utar Sports and Talent Scholarshi­ps, UtarUEC Scholarshi­p, Kojadi Education Loan amongst others.

“To apply for scholarshi­ps, access Utar Division of Examinatio­ns, Awards and Scholarshi­ps (DEAS) at https://deas.utar.edu.my/Financial-Aid. php. Students may also apply for a PTPTN loan,” added the statement.

Alternatel­y, students may also apply for an interest-free bridging loan of more than RM500 with a guarantor for the money disbursed directly into the student’s bank account.

Students who need emergency financial assistance for living expenses may apply for a onetime interest-free loan of below RM500 without any guarantor .

Foundation students or undergradu­ates may also apply for Utar interest-free loan for each year of study up to a maximum of RM15,000 per year.

The continuity of the loan is subject to annual review according to performanc­e. The closing date for submission of applicatio­n is four weeks after the commenceme­nt of each new trimester.

Students may also apply for financial assistance during emergencie­s such as accidents, illness, and bereavemen­ts from Utar Student Welfare Fund from Utar Department of Student Affairs and subject to approval according to eligibilit­y.

With these financial assistance packages, Utar hopes students can continue their education during this challengin­g time.
