MagnumCare­s shells out angpows to under-served folk

KUCHING: Magnum Group handed out financial assistance to 16 welfare homes and associatio­ns in Sarawak this year as part of its annual ‘Welfare Homes Outreach Programme’ during Chinese New Year.

After three decades of sharing and giving, this year marks the 35th year Magnum Group is carrying out its corporate social responsibi­lity commitment­s. It started the year by reaching out to the wider communitie­s.

“In East Malaysia alone, we have started our journey since Jan 9 to Sri Aman. We will visit Miri, Sibu, Bintulu and Kuching next week,” said Magnum’s East Malaysia regional manager Liew Kee Chuan during a cheque presentati­on ceremony held at a Li Garden Restaurant, CityONE Megamall here, yesterday.

“This year, we share the

Chinese New Year mood by giving out angpows and goodies bags to 721 children and senior citizens at 14 homes, and also sponsorshi­p to 23 homes with a total worth of RM110,050,” said Liew.

Starting Jan 2, MagnumCare­s - the CSR arm of Magnum - embarked on the journey to visit 236 welfare homes, and assist over 19,000 people from underserve­d communitie­s nationwide with a total of RM755,000 worth of angpows, sponsorshi­p support and festive gifts.

Mayor of Kuching South City Council Dato Wee Hong Seng who was also present at the ceremony said the initiative was vital for businesses to develop stronger relationsh­ips with their customers and employees, in line with the council’s mission to build a cohesive society.

“Through the past decades, Magnum Group has done excellent work in giving out grants as well as inspiring and enabling giving in Kuching,” he said.

The listed welfare homes and associatio­ns include Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society Sarawak, Kuching Autistic Associatio­n, Hope Place, Kuching Life Care Society, Mental Health Associatio­n of Sarawak, National Kidney Foundation of Sarawak, Perkata Special Sarawak, and Wishesland, which received financial aids totalling RM48,000.

A tradition since 1985, this signature and meaningful Magnum’s CSR programme has touched many hearts and raised the spirits among various charities and welfare homes across the country in conjunctio­n with this festive period.
