Seiko Presage Irish Coffee emits quintessential flavour in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: Using cocktail as its concept, Seiko first introduced the Presage Cocktail watch in 2010 in Japan as a limited offer, and was released later on the international market to critical acclaim. Since then watches inspired by cocktails have been a staple for the brand.
In 2019, Seiko took inspiration from Irish coffee and incorporated the drink’s signature notes into its latest Presage Cocktail watch, exclusively available in Malaysia, Brunei, Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore.
When Presage Cocktail watch debuted, it was a limited collaboration between Seiko and the famous Japanese bartender Shinobu Ishigaki. The successful collaboration had poured the essence of the cocktail into the creation of this watch.
The world of cocktails features endless combinations with rich and varied flavours, colours, as well as a selection of cocktail glasses.
These elements have become the muse of the Cocktail watch series and traits can be seen vividly on the watch surfaces such as quadrangle hour scale referencing the stem of a cocktail glass, whereas the hand-made curvy second hand not only echoes the box mirror but also symbolises the arc of the glass.
The colour of the watch’s surface and embossing is also a direct reflection of the world of cocktails.
Although the name Irish coffee might suggest it is only coffee, it’s actually a cocktail made from Irish whiskey, coffee and sugar.
The surface employs a design where the dark brown centre slowly spreads out into a lighter shade around the edge of the surface giving the appearance of looking down at a cup of Irish coffee.
What’s rare is the series’ unmistakable quadrangle shaped hour markers and curved seconds hands, as well as the dauphine hand design, which matches perfectly with the hour hand.
The new Presage Cocktail watch series includes two feature models: the SSA401J1 and the SRPE11J1, both sharing the same design concept with a 40.5 mm stainless steel case and boxshaped hardlex crystal to protect the delicate Irish coffee surface.
Meanwhile, the Presage Cocktail SRPE11J1 features a classic three-pin design and a date window at the 3 o’clock position. Time is clear and easy to read and the watch built-in precision and reliable 4R35 selfwinding movement is equipped with a swing frequency of 21,600 per hour and 41 hours of energy storage.
Presage Cocktail SSA401J1 is equipped with a large threepoint date and power reserve display. The watch surface is all about the pointers. In addition to where the pointer marks the hours, minutes and seconds, the date is also displayed by a small pointer at the 6 o’clock position.
Furthermore, a curved scale is added on the watch surface between the 12 and 4 o’clock positions.
The short axis of the middle shaft shows the current dynamic condition, making this a very practical function, because when the pointer is about to return to the 12 o’clock position, the wearer will then realize it’s time to rewind the watch again. The watch uses a 4R57 self-winding movement with 41 hours of energy storage and a swing frequency of 21,600 per hour.
The new Seiko Presage Cocktail perfectly incorporates the essence of Irish Coffee and emits the quintessential flavour of the cocktail as well. The watch is equipped with a waterproof function down to 50 meters with stainless steel strap is equipped with a triple folding switch buckle for easy wearing.
