This was hinted at by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in his speech at a meeting with Islamic agencies here yesterday.

“The administration of the state is sound and the state fund has increased, so the coming State Budget 2020 will be better than the National Budget 2020.

“So wait until Nov 4 (when the DUN sitting starts) and we will announce something for the state civil service,” he said.

The chief minister added Sarawak was not badly affected by the current global economic downturn, adding that investors continue to flock to the state because of its stability.

Sarawak government has allocated RM700 million to install artificial reef balls from Tanjung Datu to Lawas, to prevent intrusion by foreign fishing vessels and to increase marine life population, thus helping the local fishing community.

According to him, the installation of the artificial reef balls has already resulted in an increase in the population of crabs and fish.

Meanwhile, the chief minister also pledged to serve with fairness in looking after the welfare of the people irrespective of race and religion, adding that such practice was also spelt out under the Medina Charter in Islamic teaching.

“Under my leadership, I will discharge my duty with fairness because this is important to maintain our racial harmony and political stability for the progress of the state.

“To govern with fairness is also required under the Medina Charter under the teaching of Islam,” he stressed.

He urged Muslims in the state to acquire knowledge and education in order to progress while at the same time, work together with other religions.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, and Sarawak Islamic Council president Datu Misnu Taha were among those present at the meeting.
