`Edu-preneur’ reveals secrets to success in franchising

-

KUCHING: `Edu-preneur’ and franchisee of Smart Reader Kids, Sharon Chang, recently shared the secret to having a longlasting franchise operation.

Chang said the key was to be hardworking, as well as venturing into an alreadyestablished franchise business with a proven track record.

Having run the first Smart Reader Kids centre in Sarawak since 2002, starting with the Smart Reader Kids Jalan Keretapi with merely 10 students in the first year of its operation, Chang had seen the franchise growing from strength to strength.

Chang is also the pioneer in the Smart Reader Kids daycare programme in East Malaysia by introducing Smart Reader Kids Jalan Rock in 2013 – an exclusive daycare centre specifically for children aged two to 12 years.

She revealed that the highquality, advanced and effective design of its English programme with proven results was what drew her to joining Smart Reader Kids.

“The holistic approach of programmes such as Smart Reader Kids Mandarin Medium and the recently introduced Smart Reader Kids Intensive English Programme show that the management is constantly researching and updating itself in the education industry to ensure they remain in the forefront as leaders in early childhood education.

“I find the Smart Reader Creative Teaching Methodology very interesting. Every classroom has its own theme such as `Smart Reader Village’, `Maths Magic’ and `Computer Whiz’, which attracts the kids’ interest to learn in an optimum learning environment,” she added.

The highlight of Chang’s career was when she was chosen to receive the ` Smart Reader Worldwide Franchisee of the Year 2018 Award’, out of more than 300 franchisees nationwide.

When asked on how she managed to stay energetic and successful for 18 years in the industry, she attributed it to the dedicated backbone support from the management, educators and parents, and also her strong enthusiasm in this industry.

She said she always emphasised to her educators on how important it was to treat every child as if they were their own children.

“Every child has their own unique learning strengths – when you take care of every child as if they’re your own family with love and care, and prove the results of every child consistently to their parents, you will gain strong support from parents, which is important for us to sustain in the long run.

“Every business has its challenges, therefore it is important to have a positive mindset and be proactive to welcome new challenges and think of them as hidden opportunities.”
