Olivia Gundi bests eight others to take ‘Kumang Gawai Sibu 2019’ crown

SIBU: Olivia Gundi was crowned ‘Kumang Gawai Sibu 2019’ in a beauty pageant held in conjunctio­n with pre-Gawai Dayak celebratio­n here on Sunday.

She took home RM2,000 in cash, a crown, sash, trophy and a hamper after she defeated eight others in the final round of the contest.

Second place or ‘Lulong’ was won by Gloria Malong while Wati Assan was announced as ‘Selinggar Matahari’ or third place winner.

Gloria received a cash prize of RM1,500 while Wati received RM1,000.

Both also received a sash, trophy and a hamper each.

Miss Favourite, Miss Best Model and ‘ Kumang Pengelandi­k’ titles were won by Stephanie Mazlan, Frederica John and Racquel Sheryl Echa Michael respective­ly.

Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) president Dato Alice Jawan presented the prizes to the winners.

The contest was jointly organised by SIDS Sibu, Sarawak Dayak National Union Sibu and Orang Ulu National Associatio­n Sibu.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas was the guest of honour of the function, which was also attended by Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi and Bukit Goram assemblyma­n Jefferson Jamit Unyat.

Also present were organising chairperso­n Angelyn Uchi Maseng, Sibu Resident Charles Siaw, Public Works Department regional manager Cassidy Morris, SDNU Sibu chairman Chambai Lindong and Temenggong Stanley Geramong.

At the same event, Uggah presented study incentives totalling RM19,160 to 195 students who excelled in Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah, Pentaksira­n Tingkatan 3, Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia and Sijil Tinggi Persekolah­an Malaysia exams.
