Fatimah: GPS Women wing makes early preparation for state polls

-

KUCHING: The women wing of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is making early preparation to face the coming state election. Its chief Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the matter was discussed and approved during a meeting yesterday.

“Today ( yesterday), we hold our first meeting to discuss and approve several activities that we are going to do this year and next year as part of our preparation to face the coming 12th state election. We will work closely with the main body and the youth wing,” she told a press conference after the meeting held at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) headquarters in Jalan Bako, here.

She said among the activities are a retreat for all the committee members, and a public lecture on June 29. Fatimah said the public lecture would discuss the Petroleum Development Act 1974, Oil Mining Ordinance 1958 and Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Fatimah, who is Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development, said programmes touching on domestic violence and child abuse, and career and employment were also high on the agenda.

She added that GPS women had full confidence in the party leaders, and would give their undivided support to ensure that Sarawak would continue to remain with GPS.

“GPS women wing takes full cognisance of the current political climate, both at the state and federal levels. As such, we are adapting a consolidated but fluid strategy which will lead to the strengthening of GPS through, not only individual component parties, but also through the combined efforts of all GPS component parties.” She added that GPS Women wing advocates the fostering of unity and peace, which is among the nine pillars of GPS.

“We therefore condemn in the strongest terms the recent incident in Christchurch, New Zealand, which causes immense suffering and loss of innocent lives perpetuated by hate, intolerance and extremism.

“In this time of ref lection, Sarawakians must remind themselves of their unique multiethnicity and multi- religious heritage and resolve never to let our peace and unity be compromised,” she said.
