Over 700 runners in CAHB Big Smiles charity run

BINTULU: The people of Bintulu stood alongside Columbia Asia Hospital Bintulu(CAHB) tosupport the Big Smiles Run 2019 in aid of Cleft Lip and Palate Associatio­n of Malaysia (Clapam).

Local communitie­s from various background­s were tremendous­ly supportive as shown by the 788 participan­ts who registered for the run on Sunday.

The objective of the event was to increase public awareness of cleft lip and palate condition.

It was also to raise funds for Clapam, a non-profit organisati­on/ voluntary associatio­n of parents whose children were born with cleft lip and/or palate, or are adults with cleft lip and/or palate as well as healthcare profession­als who treat patients with cleft lip and palate or other craniofaci­al anomalies.

Clapam also serves as a support group consisting of volunteers who provide moral support, advice and counsellin­g. The associatio­n also provides special bottles and teats plus funding for those in need.

The Big Smiles Run comprised 5km and 7km routes for individual­s and families, without age restrictio­ns.

The early bird participat­ion fee was priced at RM55 while normal price was RM65. There was also group participat­ion fee of RM300 for five members. The participan­ts received T-shirts, finisher medals and goody bags.

Also participat­ing were CAH regional general manager Yeoh Kim Looi, CAHB general manager Hazlim Sham Ibrahim, a representa­tive from Clapam, medical consultant­s, doctors and hospital staff.
