Over 700 runners in CAHB Big Smiles charity run
BINTULU: The people of Bintulu stood alongside Columbia Asia Hospital Bintulu(CAHB) tosupport the Big Smiles Run 2019 in aid of Cleft Lip and Palate Association of Malaysia (Clapam).
Local communities from various backgrounds were tremendously supportive as shown by the 788 participants who registered for the run on Sunday.
The objective of the event was to increase public awareness of cleft lip and palate condition.
It was also to raise funds for Clapam, a non-profit organisation/ voluntary association of parents whose children were born with cleft lip and/or palate, or are adults with cleft lip and/or palate as well as healthcare professionals who treat patients with cleft lip and palate or other craniofacial anomalies.
Clapam also serves as a support group consisting of volunteers who provide moral support, advice and counselling. The association also provides special bottles and teats plus funding for those in need.
The Big Smiles Run comprised 5km and 7km routes for individuals and families, without age restrictions.
The early bird participation fee was priced at RM55 while normal price was RM65. There was also group participation fee of RM300 for five members. The participants received T-shirts, finisher medals and goody bags.
Also participating were CAH regional general manager Yeoh Kim Looi, CAHB general manager Hazlim Sham Ibrahim, a representative from Clapam, medical consultants, doctors and hospital staff.
