BETONG: Residents of four Malay villages in Spaoh here are reminded to monitor closely the implementation of the approved development projects for their respective areas.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas says this is to ensure that the appointed contractors would conduct the works according to the set specifications.

The villagers, he advises, can report to the Resident’s Office or Betong District Office should they notice any shoddy work or contractors not being compliant with the specifications of the projects.

“We cannot allow any poor quality work ( because) the end users would suffer, ( and) the government and the political leaders would be accused of not carrying out their responsibilities well,” he spoke during a meeting with local Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) leaders and members at the Bukit Saban State Constituency Service Centre here yesterday.

On the Sarawak government’s Musang King durian- planting initiative where Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had allocated a fund of RM2.5 million for the Betong parliamentary constituency, Uggah said it is now being done in stages, and is slated to benefit the local participants.

Uggah, who is Bukit Saban assemblyman and PBB deputy president, later chaired a meeting on the coordination of development projects earmarked for the Spaoh SubDistrict.

Political secretary to chief minister Dr Richard Rapu and Betong Resident Friday Belik were among those present.
