Training programmes to boost GDP contribution of SMEs to 42 pct by 2023
PUTRAJAYA: Entrepreneurs who have undergone entrepreneurial skills training programmes will be able to help the small and medium enterprises ( SME) sector achieve its target of 42 per cent contribution to Malaysia’s gross domestic product before 2023.
Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Yusof said the government had initially decided on achieving the target by 2023, but now aspired to do so much earlier.
He said the SMEs’ growth could be accelerated with efficient training programmes, thus contributing to a more promising economic forecast.
“Sustainable training programmes can help SMEs become more innovative in their businesses and achieve a high growth rate,” he told reporters after the National Entrepreneurship Institute’s ( Insken) Business Coaching ( IBC) and Business Enhancement Programme ( BEP) graduation ceremony yesterday.
Meanwhile, he said as a centre of excellence for entrepreneur development, the framework of Insken’s training programmes should be more targeted due to the short duration. Citing the four-month long IBC programme as an example, Mohd Redzuan said the programme’s content should be comprehensive, so that participating entrepreneurs can apply their knowledge to their businesses immediately.
He also urged entrepreneurs to be more serious in developing their business by increasing their business knowledge in the face of market challenges.
About 294 participants, including beauty saloon operators, homestay owners, laundry operators and bakery owners received their certificates after completing the courses.
