Rep urges constituents to work with government

-

JULAU: The people must work closely with the government to expedite socio- economic development of their area.

Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat, in stating this during a ‘leader with the people’ gathering at Rumah Langan, Nanga Serau, Lijan near here on Thursday, said there was an urgent need for development of basic infrastructure and utilities in his constituency.

However, with Sarawak government’s emphasis on rural development, Rolland believed most areas in Meluan would be connected by good roads, electricity and water supplies by 2021.

Rolland said his confidence was based on the development-biased and rural-focused 2019 budget tabled by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg recently.

He pointed out that in the 2019 state budget, the government had set aside RM6.049 billion for rural development which is almost double the amount for 2018 ( RM3.062 billion).

Besides, the state government also allocates RM5 million under the Rural Transformation Project ( RTP) fund annually for its assemblymen to implement urgently needed infrastructure or facilities in their respective areas.

“I hope to be able to connect most areas with good roads, provide water supply through Sarawak Alternative Water Supply ( Sawas) and electricity supply either from the main grid or implementation of solar power under Sarawak Alternative Rural Electricity Supply ( Sares),” he said.

Rolland said he was glad to note that majority of his constituents have realised the importance of putting their trust in the state government to look after their interests.

During the function, Rolland declared open the longhouse’s newly completed verandah and officially launched the longhouse’s Women Bureau.

He also announced a grant of RM5,000 for the longhouse Women Bureau and another RM1,000 each to 35 Women Bureaux which sent representatives to attend the function.

Among those present were Pemanca Tekong Rangie, TR Langan Ujan, Women Bureau chairperson Tipong Langan and local community leaders.
