‘Spend time with children doing healthy activities during year-end school holiday’

-

SIBU: Parents are advised to pay serious attention to their children and monitor their movement during the year- end school holiday to ensure their safety and prevent them from being involved in undesirable activities.

Sibu Rural District Council ( SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai gave this advice when officiating at the presentation of ‘SK Sungai Salim Excellence Awards 2018’ recently.

“Fill the school holiday with healthy activities that benefit the children. Be alert and don’t ever neglect them,” he said at the event, where Councillor Frederick Taip Ledomm, headmaster August Abit and the school’s parent-teacher association ( PTA) chairman Justin Guang were also present.

“This school holiday does not mean putting books aside. At least spend some time reading and learning – at least for an hour, three to four times a week,” added Sempurai.

He also hoped that parents could adjust their time to be spent with their children during the school holidays.

“Children need your guidance and it all starts from home. If you are smart and prioritise your children in your life, certainly you will reap the rewards later,” he said.

Sempurai also called upon parents to cooperate with the teachers in the educational development of their children, and to support every activity and programme being carried out in school.

“Every activity or programme is for your children’s benefit. They will be strengthened by the involvement (from parents). It will not be a loss if you give full support for the benefit of your children,” he stated.

Sempurai also reminded the PTA to function and stay relevant towards develop the school for the benefit of all.
