Without education, we cannot develop even how many rights that we have, we might lose the rights if we can’t fight for them, so we need knowledge to manage our rights and for us to add value to the rights.
BINTULU: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawakians must make education the core of their future survival.
“Without education, we cannot develop even how many rights that we have, we might lose the rights if we can’t fight for them, so we need knowledge to manage our rights and for us to add value to the rights,” he said.
He said upholding and protecting the rights is the responsibility of every Sarawakian but it must be done accordingly, based on knowledge in order to be fair to other races.
“We emphasise on education because of the changes of today, you have to explore new areas in order to strengthen your position in this challenging world,” he told participants of a seminar on ‘Hak Adat Bumiputera Masyarakat Vaie’ ( Vaie Community Native

“We are adding value to our assets, we need knowledge to manage our assets,” he added.
The Chief Minister also said he had obtained resolutions from seven ethnic groups throughout the state which will be used to facilitate the administration of the GPS government.
All these forums and seminars, he added, were held as continuity for the efforts of the previous leaders.
“In all seminars, the objective is for us to know the culture and where this culture can be adjusted in line with the changing times,” he said.
The resolutions from the seven ethnic groups, he said, will be collected and further studied by local academicians and community leaders for them to come up with a holistic policy as a foundation of the GPS administration.
He said all matters pertaining to native customary land issues, participation in development programmes and other needs of Sarawakians will be covered.
“We in Sarawak, although we have differences in racial background, we live as one family. That is the beauty of Sarawakians, because we have better understanding with one another.
“We are very unique, so our policies are holistic, but what is important is for us to uphold our Sarawak dignity so that other people will respect us,” he added.
