Police record statements from Azwanddin, Ragvinder

KUALA LUMPUR: The police yesterday recorded statements from Jaringan Melayu Malaysia president Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah Ariffin Abu Bakar and G3 chairman Ragvinder Singh over recent comments said to have touched on religious and racial sensitivities.

Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Hamzah Alias said both men were present at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters ( IPD) near here at about 11am.

“The police only took down their statements for further investigation ... no arrest was made today (yesterday),” he said when contacted yesterday.

When met by reporters before giving his statement, Azwanddin said he was summoned to have his statements recorded on Nov 23 but he requested for a postponement.

“I asked for the postponement because I had something urgent to settle so I am here today to cooperate with the police in their investigations,” he said.

Over 30 people were present at the Ampang Jaya IPD to show their support for Azwanddin and Ragvinder.

Last Friday, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said Azwanddin and Ragvinder were among nine individuals who would be called up in relation to their comments on social media which allegedly touched on religious and racial sentiments.

The seven other individuals are Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department P Waytha Moorthy; Tanah Rata assemblyman Chiong Yoke Kong; Tras assemblyman Chow Yu Hui; G3 deputy president Amran Ahmad Nor, blogger Lau Shan Thean and Muhamad Edi Mohamad Riyas or better known as Edi Rejang.

“Police have received over 160 reports nationwide and we have opened several investigations papers under Section 504, 505 and 506 of the Penal Code,” Noor Rashid added. — Bernama
