‘Petronas focuses CSR programmes on community, education and environment’
MIRI: Petronas strives to implement holistic and sustainable corporate social responsibility ( CSR) programmes centred on three key pillars — community wellbeing, education and environment.
According to Petronas Carigali Technical Service general manager Zaki Hashim, Petronas’ CSR programmes in Sarawak are carefully planned and carried out in close consultation and collaboration with the Sarawak government to ensure that these efforts would positively and meaningfully impact the lives of the targeted communities.
“In this respect, we applaud the media in Miri for their role in highlighting the initiatives undertaken by Petronas and its partners, including the state government and its agencies, to enhance the wellbeing of the local communities, improve education and conserve the environment in Sarawak.
“I must mention here that our recent media familiarisation trip to our eco-marine project site at the Miri- Sibuti Coral Reefs National Park received overwhelming response from all of you. Your stories about the project have successfully raised the level of public awareness of conservation and protection of our precious coral reefs from destruction by illegal fishing activities,” he said during Petronas-Northern Sarawak Journalist Association ( NSJA) Networking Dinner at a hotel here recently.
Zaki, who was representing Petronas Carigali– Sarawak Oil head Anuar Ismail at the event, stressed that with the support, cooperation and partnership from the media across various fronts, Petronas had been able to operate seamlessly in this city and elsewhere in Sarawak over the past many decades.
“Therefore, it is our fervent hope that our collaboration, partnership and friendship would continue to blossom into the future,” he said.
Earlier, Petronas held the annual bowling friendly tournament, which hosted about 100 participants representing the organisation and also the NSJA.
Rosemaria Buma, Clare Cinderella, M Harith Abdullah and Sjafril Djauhari (Team 10) won the tournament, with Team 9 ( Wong Ai Yun, Snah Ukong, Arnie Bujang and Fidzree Anuar) and Team 5 ( Margaret Ringgit, Mohamad Norhadie Sahari, Fidatul Akmar and Aizzat Inche Zakuan) placing second and third, respectively.
Petronas Floating LNG One ( PFLNG One) head Norsham Khalid and NSJA president Andy Jong were also at the tournament.
