39 foreigners nabbed at two constructi­on sites in Permy, Senadin

MIRI: Thirty- nine foreigners were arrested in two separate operations at housing constructi­on sites in Permy and Senadin here on Thursday for entering the country illegally.

General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 12 commanding officer Supt Tan Hiap Seng in a press statement said the operations codenamed ‘ Op Libas’ were conducted jointly with the Sarawak Immigratio­n Department.

A total of 55 personnel comprising 43 GOF members and 12 Immigratio­n officers were involved in the operations where they checked 60 people at the two locations. Only 39 were found to have committed immigratio­nrelated offences.

“Out of the 39 arrested, 31 were men, eight women including one woman of unknown nationalit­y while the rest were Indonesian­s,” he said, adding four were arrested at South Lake Permy, and 35 at the second location.

Fifteen of those arrested had overstayed and are being detained under Section 15 (1) (c) of the Immigratio­n Act 1959/63 (Act 155) while 16 under Section 6 (1) ( c) of the Immigratio­n Act 1959/63 for entering the country without valid documents.

“Eight others were detained under Section 11 ( 7) ( a) of the Immigratio­n Regulation­s 1966 for violating their social visit pass,” Tan said.

All detainees have been referred to the Immigratio­n Department for further investigat­ion.
