Resident promises bigger, better BASE jump next year

SIBU: Sibu Internatio­nal BASE jump will be bigger and better next year.

Sibu Resident Charles Siaw said this at a welcoming dinner on Thursday for 34 BASE jumpers from 14 countries who are in town for the 10th Sibu Internatio­nal BASE jump from Sept 20-23.

“I took over as Resident of Sibu this January and this is my first experience at organising Sibu Internatio­nal BASE Jump.

“Rest assured that with the support of all the sponsors and our strategic partners, we will make next year’s BASE jump bigger and better. I hope to see the BASE jumpers return next year,” Siaw said.

He also encouraged jumpers to promote Sibu to their friends back home, adding that Sibu Internatio­nal BASE Jump is a signature tourism event.

“I am very proud of the organising committee led by Sibu Resident’s Office for achieving thi s major mi lestone,” he added.

Siaw said the best superheroe­s costume competitio­n for jumpers is added to make this year’s event more fun and livelier. The champion will win RM1,000 while the first runner-up will bag RM750 and second runner-up, RM500

encouraged to participat­e in walk- a- mi le, night ride and ‘sukan rakyat’ programmes, he added.

A 12- day carnival from Sept 12 till 23 is being held in conjunctio­n with the 10th anniversar­y of Sibu Internatio­nal BASE jump.

Jumpers will be taken for a visit to Rumah Daniel Bujal on Sept 23.

Sibu Municipa l Counci l chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King officiated at the dinner. Malaysia BASE Associatio­n president Captain A Aziz Ahmad, Australia Base Associatio­n president Gary Cunningham, Datuk Wong Tiing Kiong, United Chinese Associatio­n ( UCA) Sibu division deputy treasurer Yong King Sung, Temenggong Stanley Geramong and Pemanca James Semilan were also present.
