BINTULU: For Bintulu- born Patrissa Hamson, the opportunity to work in a male- dominated sector as an engineer at the Shell Middle Distillate Synthesis Malaysia ( Shel l MDS) in Tanjung Kidurong here is a great honour.
She initially did not expect to meet the expectat ions of the exact ing demands of her job as an engineer specialising in of f- site tankers and wax plant technology due to the huge responsibilities.
The 2 8 - yea r - old chemica l - gas engineering graduate from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia is responsible for inspecting plant equipment and increasing production capacity and product commercialisation, placing her as one the specialists skilled in operating the heavy paraffin conversion ( HPC).
She regarded the opportunity to work in the gas stream industry as something ‘ priceless’ as not everyone had the same chance to acquire such an experience as she did.
“For me to join Shell MDS is a great achievement, this is a platform for me as a new graduate to expand my career in the engineering field,” she told Bernama recently.
Patrissa said she loved and felt very comfortable in the work culture and environment at her workplace, which prioritised women in decisionmaking.
“The work culture here is fun, women are given priority in making decisions as well as the opportunity to express their views and enhancing their self confidence.
“Her e , overa l l the workforc e comprises diverse backgrounds, races and religions but we can all work together and respect one another,” she said.
Despite having worked in the gas industry for merely three years, she was proud of the unity that existed among her co-workers.
“The unity among the multiracial workforce in the country is the main recipe of Malaysia’s success today.
“In conjunction with the National Day themed ‘ Sayangi Malaysiaku’, let us maintain this unity for social harmony, pol it ical stabi l ity and economic growth,” she added. — Bernama
