Rep: More should be done to promote Fairy Cave as a key tourism spot

-

BAU: Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh wants to see more efforts being undertaken to promote the Fairy Cave at the Krokong area near here as a key tourism destination.

He believes that by attracting more tourists, this would create economic spin- offs slated for the benefit of the local community, as well as making this district a popular hub for eco-tourism.

“The Fairy Cave is said to be one of the best limestone rockclimbing sites in the world. This was what I was told by rockclimbing enthusiasts,” he spoke during a simple ceremony at his service centre here recently, where he handed RM40,000 from his minor rural project ( MRP) grant over to Koperasi Fairy Cave Heritage Kuching Berhad to organise the Fairy Cave Festival this year.

It is learnt that the three- day festival will kick off this Friday.

In this respect, Miro expressed his confidence that the event would attract many visitors, just like in had been in previous years.

“The festival will feature a demonstration on how to collect swiftlet’s nests, which will offer a dif ferent experience to the visitors.”

Meanwhile, event organising chairman Joryim Ngayop projected that the festival could attract some 3,000 visitors.

Adding on, he said a beauty pageant ‘Miss Pesta Fairy Cave’ would also be staged, featuring 10 contestants.

“There will also be many other exciting events such as a blowpipe competition, a sago processing demonstration and live entertainments by local artistes,” said Joryim.
