SMK Tiong Hin recognises teachers’ contributi­on with Star Awards

SIBU: The Teachers of SMK Tiong Hin are told to adapt to the changing education system in the fast changing 21st century.

Its principal Tan Kok Aun said this during the second Tiong Hin Star Night held in conjunctio­n with Teachers’Day at a hotel here on Friday evening. He added that teachers have to change and improve to become great educators.

“Be strong, believe and practise. Even though the obstacles are difficult, you will overcome as every human being possess great power within. This power is called perseveran­ce and with perseveran­ce dreams can come true,” Tan said.

He added that the school star award was incepted last year to honour and recognise the contributi­on of teachers in SMK Tiong Hin.

In his speech, chairman of the school board of directors Philip Lau King Kah said the board would continue to upgrade the school facilities to create a better environmen­t for students as well as teachers.

‘We will endeavour to do our best and spare no effort towards this purpose,” he added.

According to him, SMK Tiong Hin was one of the best schools in Sibu. Praising the teachers for their contributi­on towards their students performanc­e both in academic and co-curriculum activities, Lau was confident the school would elevate to greater heights in time to come.

He later presented the school’s star awards to a a number of teachers.
