Family of toddler slashed to death provided with counselling, aid

-

KUANTAN: The Pahang Social Welfare Department is providing counselling for family members of the one year and seven month- old boy who was allegedly slashed by his mother last Sunday.

Its director, Zulkhairi Zainol Abidin, said counselling was provided for the child’s father and his two older siblings, aged seven and five, to ensure they would not be traumatised by the incident.

“The department has also provided immediate aid of RM300 because it is understood that the family is experiencing financial problems.

“Check by the department found that the family has never requested for aid from any quarters before,” he said when contacted here yesterday.

Zulkhairi said the department would continue to monitor the family from time to time and provide the necessary assistance depending on their needs and entitlement.

Police had detained a 31year- old woman for allegedly slashing her son’s neck with a knife in an incident at the Jengka Felda 13 Scheme in Maran.

She was believed to be in a state of hallucination.

The incident was believed to have occurred at 8.40pm after the woman was alleged to have taken the child, who was then sleeping in the living room with the father, into her bedroom.

The woman’s husband, upon realising the incident, then took the child to the Jengka Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. — Bernama
