Miri to host state-level Nuzul Quran event this June 1

MIRI: This resort city will host this year’s state-level `Nuzul Quran’ event, scheduled for June 1.

According to Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president Datu Misnu Taha , who is also the organising committee chairman, the programme of the day to honour the Holy Book of Islam would begin with a talk on `Nuzul Quran’ at Masjid Darul Istiqamah hall in Kampung Luak, scheduled to commence at 8am.

“This would be followed by the presentati­on of MIS contributi­ons to the mosques and suraus across Miri Division,” he said when chairing the organising committee meeting at Miri Islamic Complex yesterday.

It is learnt that Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Rosey Yunus has been invited to officiate at the event.

On the talk themed `Ukhuwah Islamiah Asas Penyatuan Ummah’ (Comradeshi­p in Islam Basis of People’s Unity), it will be conducted by Dr Arip Adol from Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

For the evening programme, Misnu said it would take place at Masjid At-Taqwa here, scheduled to commence at 5.30pm.

“It is expected to host more than 2,000 guests. The activities for the evening will include mass prayers and mass recital of Surah Yaasin,” he said.

The evening programme is also expected to host Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, as well as Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datin Patinggi Dato Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.
