Nanta drums up support for BN’s Kong in Lanang
SIBU: The Barisan Nasional (BN)-Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) candidate for Lanang parliamentary constituency Kelvin Kong is a ‘kampong’ (village) boy from Sungai Durin – no stranger to the voters there, says BN Sarawak secretarygeneral Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.
In calling upon the constituents to support the Lanang candidate in the coming election, Nanta said Kong ‘has the heart to serve the people to the best of his ability’.
He expressed confidence in Kong’s ability and readiness in transforming Lanang into a vibrant place for living and working.
Nanta, speaking at a meet-thepeople session in Rumah Monica Gelima, Sungai Durin on Friday night, said he understood that Kelvin had gone to the ground to mingle with the people over the past last two years.
He then commended Kong for the latter’s commitment in serving the people.
Claiming that Lanang, while being under the opposition, had not seen much development, Nanta said it was time to let BN take over and let this constituency experience the wave of vibrant development.
He also advised voters to be wary of the opposition’s baseless accusations and instigations against the BN-led government, particularly those spread over social media.
Minister of Public Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom officiated at the opening ceremony of the session, which was attended by 500 people.
Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, political secretaries to chief minister Thomas Romeo Christopher Tegong and Maurice Giri, longhouse chieftain Monica Gelima and former ‘penghulu’ Philip Kayak were also present.
