Sukma shadow team closes in on Sarawak Gladiators

-

KUCHING: Sukma XIX Shadow Team won their second consecutive game after they defeated Kuching Cricket Club ( KCC) by three wickets at TASUDA Ground last Sunday.

KCC tried their best. They were 21/ 2 inside six overs and then somehow, miraculously, thanks to Yusuf and Victor who racked up a quick fire partnership of 71 with former going pass 50.

Victor and Yusuf lost their wickets in consecutive overs, from there on the scoring rate fell apart and the rest of the batsmen never got going.

Syukri and Amir in particular bundled out KCC tail enders pretty quick giving their side to chase down the target of 136.

In reply, Sukma lost their openers Fathul and Ervin rather meekly but then their skipper Ikmal along with Amir mixed caution with aggression and chased down the target with five overs to spare.

With this win Sukma moved up to second spot in the league table.

The current leaders are Sarawak Gladiators who have recorded two wins in two matches.

On S at u r d ay, S a r awa k Gladiators dispatched defending champions Unimas by 64 runs.

Earlier in the innings their openers fell cheaply but they never lost track of the scoring rate.

Sahib continued his peerless form and was helped along the way by Fazal and Suffyan.

Though Gladiators finished a little light on runs, the score of 165 was always going to be tough for Unimas considering the pace of the attack they had to deal with.

Chasing the target of 165, Unimas batsmen surrendered and were blown away by Shahid and Suffyan which saw them reeling 5/40 in 10 overs.

The Gladiators kept chipping away with the wickets at regular intervals to end the misery of Unimas batsmen who were bundled out on 100.

Shahid and Sahib were the pick of the bowlers sharing six wickets in between.
