SEBUYAU: The Samarahan Division special tourism working committee will get RM50,000 to promote tourism products and services in Sebuyau area.

Assistant Minister of Coastal Road Datuk Julaihi Narawi said he will approve the allocation this year for the committee to work with Universiti Teknologi Mara ( UiTM), in promoting and improving tourism industry in the area.

“To enable us to develop, promote and improve tourism products in Sebuyau both in the state and outside, fund is needed…and I will allocate RM50,000 as requested by the committee.

The committee is headed by Samarahan Resident Brahim Lumpu and would work with UiTM to see (what the committee) could do, like providing training to the locals to improve the services, Julaihi told reporters on Wednesday.

He earlier officiated at the launching of UiTM Edutourism programme at Dewan Pembangunan, here.

Present were Brahim and UiTM Rector Prof Datuk Dr Jamil Hamali.

Julaihi, who is Sebuyau assemblyman thanked UiTM for its collaboration on the programme, adding that the university would not be restricted on the use of the fund in improving the quality of tourism sector in the area.

According to Julaihi, Sebuyau has several tourist attractions, including the Iban longhouses and Malay villages, food, culture and tradition.

“Because UiTM is willing to work with us, we must use the opportunity to promote tourism products in Sebuyau,” he pointed out.

On the RM10 million chalets which was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg last year to be built here, Julaihi said the project was still in the design and concept stage which would only be ready in April.

He stressed that the design and concept which would include local inputs will be handed over to the chief minister once completed for approval by the State Planning Unit.

“We expect the construction of the chalets to start in June this year,” he said.

Abang Johari, at the launching of Sebuyau New Township last year announced RM10 million to build chalets in the area.

Meanwhile, Jamil opined that there was a need to set up tourism master plan in Samarahan, saying that there were plenty of hidden treasures in the area.

He added that the university would continue with the quest to promote tourism in Sebuyau to improve the living standard of the people in the area.

UiTM Edutourism in Sebuyau started in 2012 and Julaihi hoped that the collaboration could be intensified.
