MIRI: The sale of more fusion and creatively prepared food and beverages is set to draw food lovers to the Gong Xi Bazaar 2018.

The 16th edition of the bazaar will be held at Jalan High Street from Feb 9 to 15.

Speaking at a press conference here yesterday, Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( MCCCI) chairman Lee Khoi Yun anticipated that the wide choice of culinary delights would not only attract the usual pool of visitors, but also the new and younger generation to visit Miri’s most important event of the year.

“Similar to previous years, all 260 stalls, including Bumiputra stalls, have been booked by traders and the preparation for the event is now going on.

“We anticipate that Mirians and visitors from other parts of the state and neighbouring country Brunei would enjoy themselves very much when visiting the bazaar,” he said.

Among the choices available at the bazaar will be Spanish food, Taiwanese food and Chinese food as well as local native food such as bamboo rice and vegetables.

“Of course, to prevent unnecessary incidents like the loss of valuable items at the stalls and to protect the interest of the hawkers, we are working closely with the police and Rela to strengthen safety,” he said.

Lee, who heads the working committee, reminded the public not to park their vehicles indiscriminately so as not to cause inconvenience to others.

“Therefore, during this period, Miri City Council ( MCC) allows the public to park at MCC’s multistorey car park free of charge from Feb 9 to Feb 14, from 6pm to 12 midnight.

“As for cleanliness, with the help from the city council, we will seal off the garbage depository at Jalan Raja during the seven- day event and manpower will be increased to clear the rubbish bins from time to time and keep the streets clean,” said Lee.

Jalan Raja and Jalan High Street will be closed to traffic on Feb 6 from 8pm onwards to allow canopies to be set up.
