100 entreprene­urs to showcase products at carnival in Bintulu

BINTULU: About 100 local entreprene­urs will showcase their products during the Entreprene­urship Carnival 2018 at Commerce Square Mall here from Jan 26 until Feb 14.

Various activities including a trade fair will be held during the carnival which is expected to draw large crowds to this industrial town.

Bintulu district officer and organising committee chairman Mataip Sayu said the carnival is jointly organised by D’Touch Beauty Skills and Academy and QiPao Borneo Section in collaborat­ion with Bintulu District Office, Bintulu Commerce Square Mall and Parkcity Everly Hotel.

Among the activities are World Qipao Pageant 2018 Borneo Section, cooking contest, creative makeup contest, colouring contest, ‘air tuak’ making, creative tanglung and poco-poco contests.

There will also be traditiona­l music performanc­es, entreprene­urship workshop, catwalk courses for Qipao pageants, Chinese New Year fun run, blood donation, singing competitio­n and other related courses for local entreprene­urs.

“We want our local small and medium entreprene­urs to grab this golden opportunit­y to promote their products to the public,” said Mataip.

Meanwhile, organising committee member Hellen Anbi said this year’s event will involve various parties including non-government­al organisati­ons and private sector especially in the charity fund raising dinner.

“We hope this carnival can attract our local entreprene­urs because this is the best avenue for them to promote their products.

“We are targeting to attract 80 per cent of local entreprene­urs to sign up and showcase their products during the carnival,” she told a press conference. Also present were Commerce Square Management Sdn Bhd centre manager William Tan and other members of the main organising committee.

She said the highlight of the event is the charity fund raising dinner at Parkcity Everly Hotel on Feb 4, where tables are now open for sale.

“The funds collected from this dinner will be used to buy the Apheresis platelet machine worth RM275,000 to be donated to Bintulu hospital.

“It is hoped all government agencies and corporate bodies can come forward and contribute to this noble cause,” said Hellen.

Another committee member Florence Teo said the main objective of the carnival is to provide a platform for local entreprene­urs to further strengthen their business network both for domestic and internatio­nal markets.

“We want to help our local business people to get involve in promoting their products, they can learn from each other on how to manage a business,” said Teo.

Entries are now open for various activities that will be held during the carnival.

For World Qipao Pageant 2018 Borneo Section, the champion will receive RM2,000 cash, gifts worth RM6,000, a trophy and a certificat­e.

Second and third place winners will get RM1,000 and RM500 cash, gifts worth RM4,000 and RM2,500 respective­ly including a trophy and a certificat­e each.

The fi rst to third place winners in the cooking contest will walk home with RM300, RM250 and RM200 cash respective­ly. There will be two consolatio­n prizes of RM50 each.

In the creative makeup contest themed ‘ Floral’, the first to third place winners will receive RM700, RM600 and RM500 cash respective­ly while two consolatio­n prize winners will get RM100 cash each.

For colouring contest, the fi rst place winner will bring home RM150 cash and a certificat­e. Second and third placing will get RM100 and RM50 cash with a certificat­e each. There will be five consolatio­n prizes of RM30 cash and a certificat­e.

The creative ‘Air tuak’ making contest themed fruits offers RM300, RM250 and RM200 cash prizes for the first to third place winners with two consolatio­n prizes worth RM50 and a certificat­e.

In the creative tanglung contest, the fi rst place winner will stand a chance to win RM500 cash and a certificat­e. Second and third placing will receive RM300 and RM200 cash respective­ly with a certificat­e each. There will be five consolatio­n prizes worth RM50 and a certificat­e for each recipient.

Meanwhile, the first place winner in the poco-poco contest will receive RM600 cash and medals while second and third place winners will get RM500 and RM400 cash respective­ly with medals each. Two groups will get RM100 cash in consolatio­n prize.
