Lu Han tops Baidu searches, TFBoys still among the top
It was no surprise when Lu Han, previously of the Kpop band EXO, had again smashed Internet search records last October by disclosing that he has a new girlfriend.
BEIJING: Search engine records from Baidu last year showed that Lu Han remain at the summit, with TFBoys still among the top attractions.
Baidu is the top search engine in China, and there are some 750 million Internet users in the county.
Pop star Lu Han — often known as China’s Justin Bieber — already holds the Guinness World Record for most comments on a Weibo microblog post (more than 100 million for a post about English soccer squad Manchester United).
It was no surprise when Lu Han, previously of the K-pop band EXO, had again smashed Internet search records last October by disclosing that he has a new girlfriend.
Online buzz was so overwhelming that servers at Weibo crashed. Also buzz-worthy was the teen boy band TFBoys.
The three members — Wang Junkai, Yi Yangqianxi, and Wang Yuan — spent much of the year appearing on reality shows, fashion magazine covers — and in Wang Junkai’s case, even a poster for a Hollywood blockbuster that he didn’t actually star in.
But last year also saw a deepening tension among each of the boys’ fan factions, or weifen — a Chinese term for fans who exclusively support a certain member of a group.
Since the band first hit the stage four years ago, each member’s weifen had harboured grudges against the other members and their respective fans for alleged irregularities in promoting their idols.
Last September, their agents announced plans to set up separate studios for each boy to give them more personalised development.
However, each member’s agent insist the trio is not heading for a split.
