Good Samaritans to the aid of single mother

-

KUCHING: A group of Good Samaritans recently brought New Year cheer to single mother Lansat Jawan by donating food items that include packets of rice.

Voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw handed over the donations to Lansat, 66, at her home in Kampung Segubang, Batu Kawa.

Lim said Lansat lives alone and does not earn a stable income as her mobility is limited by poor health.

“Her house is not connected to the grid so she depends on an oil lamp and sometimes generator to light up the house at night. I have been through hardship and poverty, and I understand the predicament.

“Thankfully, there are Good Samaritans out there who have answered my call to bring her cheer in conjunction with the New Year,” said Lim who has committed 735 acts of charity after retiring from the Marine Police.

Lim said poor families needing coffins for the funeral of a departed family member can contact him at 082- 248153 or 016- 8070388 for assistance.

Coffins are purchased using cash donations from Good Samaritans and placed at a coffin shop in Kuching.

Among those people who had received such assistance were families in Mantung Marau, Serian and a village in Jalan Puncak Borneo.

“So far, 15 coffins have been delivered to places as far as Bau, Serian and Sri Aman,” Lim said.
