KUCHING: Petanque players will vie for the Dato’ Sri Fadillah Yusof Cup in the N6 Tupong Double Open tournament to be held at Arena Petanque SMK Matang Hilir this weekend.

Organised by the Petanque Association of Kuching Division ( PSPBK) in collaboration with N6 Tupong Service Centre, P194 Petra Jaya Service Centre and SMK Matang Hilir Petanque Club, the competition is supported by LEA Sports Centre ( LSC) Sdn Bhd.

This tournament is limited to the first 128 entries where the first and second rounds of the competition will be based on ‘double knock- out’ format and the ‘single knock- out’ format for all subsequent rounds.

It is aimed at selecting potential local players to represent Kuching in Sukan Sarawak (SukSar) next month, sustaining the development of petanque and making early preparations for the 2018 Sukan Malaysia (Sukma).

PSPBK has produced athletes who have represented Sarawak in Sukma and Malaysia in the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore.

LSC are providing outright trophies and medals for the winners of the Men’s Double and Women’s Double categories.

Cash prizes are offered to the winners for both categories, courtesy of N6 Tupong and PSPBK.

At a simple sponsorship ceremony at N6 Tupong service centre on Monday, Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, who represented Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, received the sponsorship from LEA Sport Centre senior operations manager Poh Siok Hoon.

Also present were SMK Matang Hi l i r senior assi stant ( cocurriculum) Sejali Basri and LSC senior merchandising manager Alice Kho.
