16 S’wak Sports Awards to be given out on Sept 2
KUCHING: The Sarawak State Sports Council ( MSNS) have short l isted 79 from the 160 entries received for the 2015-2016 Sarawak Sports Awards to be held at Riverside Majestic Hotel on Sept 2.
“The Sarawak Sports Awards is held every two years by the State government to recognise individuals, sports associations and related bodies who have r endered thei r se r vic e s , contribution and leadership towards sports advancement,” said Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah yesterday.

coverage for local and international sports events in the country,” he added at the press conference after chairing a selection committee panel meeting at his office at Bangunan Baitul Makmur in Petra Jaya.
There are 16 categories including Sportsman/Sportswoman for 20152016, Most Promising Sportsman/ Sportswoman, Para Sportsman/ Sportswoman, Best Coach, Best Para Coach, Best Leader, Best Men’s/ Women’s Team, Best Association, Best Sports Writer ( English, Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese) and Best Photographer.
Winners will be announced on the Sports Awards night at River Majestic Hotel where the Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to attend.
Nominees for the Sportsman award include Welson Sim Wee Sheng ( swimming), Loh Jack Chang (wushu) and Augustine Rudy Grocer (taekwondo) while Pandelela Rinong Pamg (diving) is among the nominees for the Sportswoman award which also include Erika Kong Jia and Angela Chieng Chui Fei (swimming) and Nurul Hidayah Abdul Karim (taekwondo).
Nominees for Best Coach are Tan Check Joon (taekwondo), Jackson Ting Nik Soon (tenpin bowling) and Hussien Zawawi (silat).
There are only two nominees each for Best Men’s Team (Tenpin Bowling and Volleyball) and Best Women’s Team ( Tenpin Bowling and Kabaddi).
