see anyone stealing copper cables from our facilities so that we can respond very quickly,” he told reporters at the SEB Hari Raya gathering at their regional office here yesterday.

When asked if SEB had any plan to reward informers, Sharbini said there was none at the moment, but it was something they would have to look into.

He added that the high-voltage cable was very dangerous and it could kill if not handled properly, especially by the cable thieves.

“Many of them got themselves injured, but after having done it for so many years they seem to have some kind of techniques in doing it.

“The action is not only dangerous, but it will also affect the customers because of the black- out caused,” he said.

He added that one (cable theft) case had been reported in Miri and as in so many other cases, the culprits were not easy to catch.
