Take care of fire hydrants, Bomba Komuniti urged
KUCHING: Members of Bomba Komuniti are urged to take care of fi re hydrants around their area and work together to protect it from vandalism.
Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said fi re fighters are often faced with issues of problematic fi re hydrants, especially those in neighbourhoods and villages.
“This is why the ‘ Rakan Pili Bomba’ initiative should be supported as it was among ways for the community to assist (Fire and Rescue Department) Bomba in fire fighting,” said Abdul Rahman.
He said this at the ‘ Bomba Komuniti Belia’ for N4 Pantai Damai launch held at Bandar Baru Samariang multipurpose hall on Sunday.
Dr Abdul Rahman also advised residents of Bandar Baru Samariang to be wary of fire sources and to not overlook safety issues at home.
“What is important is for residents to know their role as a member of Bomba Komuniti, to assist the fi re department in fi re fighting and at the same time to educate their family members on fire safety issues,” he pointed out.
He also called on the residents to know the safety procedure to follow if a fire occurs and, at the same time, to know the exact location of fi re hydrants around their area.
Earlier on, state Bomba director Nor Hisham Mohammad said there are more than 300 Bomba Komuniti around the state with over 4,000 members.
“Overall, Pantai Damai is the most active in the state and I would like to laud the effort by residents in Pantai Damai constituency towards this cause,” said Nor Hisham.
He asked residents to take care of their neighbourhood fire hydrants as fi re fighters often encountered problematic fi re hydrants which were often vandalised or clogged with rubbish.
“This often causes problems especially during an emergency and we hope that the ‘ Rakan Pili Bomba’ initiative will raise awareness towards this issue,” he said.
The programme yesterday also saw a talk on electricity safety and fire safety, as well as a demonstration on putting out a fi re from a gas stove.
Also present were Pantai Damai Bomba Komuniti chairperson Rosmah Zaini.
