Don’t play on racial sentiments — Tiong
BINTULU: Bintulu folk have been asked not to play on racial sentiments but instead respect and understand other cultures and religions.
Bintulu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said mutual respect and understanding would ensure Sarawak continues to enjoy peace, harmony and prosperity.
“Racial issues should not be raised because they could jeopardise the peace, prosperity and unity among the various races in the country,” he said at Rumah Seliong Ugat at Mile 35, Bintulu-Miri Road recently.
Tiong dismissed claims made by certain longhouse chiefs that he only helped a single race, while others were neglected without projects and grants.
“As the people’s representative, I don’t choose any race or ethnic group in providing assistance and all races are equal based on the 1Malaysia concept,” he said.
Tiong also urged rural communities to continue supporting the Barisan Nasional ( BN) government for further development.
He stressed that the BN government has never marginalised any ethnic group in implementing development programmes in the state.
Tiong called on all young people to work together with their longhouse chiefs to preserve and maintain peace, harmony and unity.
The other longhouses Tiong visited were Rumah Padang Maleng, Rumah Kedi Asam, Kampung Wawasan Jaya, Rumah Banggau Dasa, Rumah Sumok Entering, Rumah Christopher Inu, and Kampung Wawasan Rajawali.
