Petronas Dagangan, government agencies conduct emergency response exercise
SIBU: Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB), together with its dealers and several government agencies carried out a Functional Emergency Response Exercise (FERE) yesterday in conjunction with World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
The exercise, held at Petronas station in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here, was aimed at standardising and strengthening the coordination between PDB and the relevant agencies in the event of an emergency at Petronas stations.
FERE, according to a publicity release, is also part of PDB’s efforts to evaluate and enhance its existing emergency response procedures, and to help improve the understanding of roles and responsibilities of dealers and workers at Petronas stations.
PDB Retail Business Division’s head of Retail Sales and Operations Department Azureen Azita Abdullah said safety had always been their utmost priority.
“Today’s (yesterday) successful exercise is a culmination of months of planning in ensuring the safety of the people and environment. We will continue to carry out this emergency response simulation on a regular basis at different Petronas stations nationwide,” she said.
Designed to ensure preparedness and provide personnel with hands-on experience, the exercise, which involved oil spill and fire, required all parties to respond as they would in an emergency situation.
Among government agencies involved in the joint exercise were Fire and Rescue Department, police, Sibu Hospital, Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism, and Department of Environment.
