Kuching Closed attracts young squash players

KUCHING: Nathalie Sim and Muhammad Shoaib Hassan defeated Jess Tay and Emmanuel David in straight sets to clinch the doubles crown of the Kuching Closed Squash competitio­n at the Sarawak Squash Centre, Petra Jaya last Sunday.

Nathalie, 14, and Shoaib, the state coach from Pakistan combined well to tame their opponents 11-7, 11- 9 much to the applause of the spectators.

The Premier final, which was another much watched game, saw top seed Clifford Tay Ye Jie outgunning Gregory Chan in three sets of 11- 4, 11- 6, 12-10 to claim the title.

George Lawai Galau was the champion in the Young Adult category, followed by Ku Muhamad Rais and Mohamad Amirul in second and third spots respective­ly while Squash Associatio­n of Kuching (SAK) president Sim Chin Kheng was the champion in the Veteran contest. This competitio­n organised by SAK attracted over 110 participan­ts with 100 of them aged seven to 20 years.
