SIBU: The Sibu branch of Computer Sales and Services Association Sarawak ( CSSA) will host the annual Sarawak ICT Expo 2017 at the Giant Hypermarket here this weekend.

The event will run from April 28 to 30, 10am to 9pm daily.

According to event organising chairman Siek Hieng Hoe, there are 18 companies taking part this year, occupying 24 booths at the expo site.

“Over 300 ICT products will be offered to customers at very special prices,” he told reporters at a press conference here yesterday.

Moreover, there would be 30 USB fans or USB lights, 100 cans of 100 Plus energy drink and 100 pieces of Kit Kat biscuits up for grabs every day in the ‘Like & Share’ contest on Facebook, or ‘Share Moment’ contest on WeChat at the expo throughout the three days.

Each person is entitled to get one of the above items free, while stock lasts.

“There will be a ‘ gaming experience’ during the event.

“We will set up 10 units of gaming computers for the public to take part in as a pre-launched gaming competition experience – for free, but it will be on first- come, firstserve basis,” he said, adding that the games would be the popular ‘DOTA’ and ‘Counter Strike’.

“Those interested in taking part can register on the spot,” he said.

This year, the main sponsor for the event is Telekom Malaysia Bhd ( TM), supported by Acer, Aplus, Brother, Epson and Remote Monitoring System (RMS).

In addition, an e-waste recycling campaign will also be run at the event.

On this, Siek said those with unused or broken computers and peripherals, printers and other ICT accessories could bring them to the hypermarket’s carpark – behind the main building – for proper disposal.

“The e-waste recycling campaign is carried out by CSSA Sibu in collaboration with Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) towards creating a cleaner and healthier environment for the people of Sibu to live in,” he pointed out.

He said SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King would officiate at the launch of the campaign on April 29, set at 11am.

CSSA Sibu chairman Wong Chi Tieng was also present at the press conference yesterday.
