Miri to host series of events in celebratio­n of May Fest

MIRI: Various events are in store throughout this April and May, organised in connection with Miri May Fest and to celebrate the annual Miri City Day.

The ‘ Internatio­nal Exhibition of Buddha and His Principals – Unveiling the Mysteries of Tibetan Buddhism’ will go on from April 28 to May 1 at the indoor stadium here.

The exhibition is run by Persatuan Penganut Agama Buddha Kadhampa – Malaysia.

On April 29, the Miri Divisional Gawai Dayak Committee will launch the division-level Gawai Dayak celebratio­n with various activities and events, running till May 21. The highlight will be the Gawai dinner on May 13. Tickets for the dinner are priced at RM600 and RM800 per table of 10 persons, and they can be purchased from the committee’s treasurer Caroline Siburat ( 012- 8518938).

Fans of local Dayak dishes and delicacies can look forward to the Miri Gawai Dayak Bazaar, taking place at Emart Riam carpark area from May 6 to 21. The annual bazaar is organised by Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak (GADS).

The Miri Bike Week programme will run from May 5 to 7, at the parking lot of Permymall here. The event is conducted by Jaguh Motorcycle Club and members of the public wishing to know more about the event can contact Ramzie Hipni at 010- 9619126.

Also starting on May 5 is the Miri Food and Exhibition Carnival at Miri City Fan here.

The two-week event, ending May 21, is organised by Miri Traditiona­l Handicraft Studies Society.

For those who are into deep sea fishing, the 10th Miri City Internatio­nal Deep Sea Fishing Tournament will be held on May 11 to 14. This annual event is run by Miri Anglers Club and will gather anglers from all over the globe.

On May 13, the ‘ Mardi Gras Lambir’ will take place at Kampung Tunku Abdul Rahman here. The event is a collaborat­ion between the community leaders of P218 Sibuti and Taman Tunku/Lambir Zone Residents Committee.

Meanwhile, the Miri City Day countdown celebratio­n is set on May 19 at Miri City Fan. Various activities and entertainm­ent programmes have been planned for the evening, and these will be made known to the public soon.

The finale of Miri May Fest will be the Ramadan Bazaar, to be set up at various locations across the city and runs from May 27 to June 26. These bazaars are under the supervisio­n of Miri City Council.

All the events are some of over 50 activities and programmes set for the annual May Fest.

On Saturday, Miri Mayor Adam Yii had a meeting with all event organisers to finalise the list of events for the festival.
