China broadcast media companies welcomed to promote Miri

MIRI: Local tourism operators here welcome television stations and broadcast networks from China to promote tourism for the Resort City via filming works.

Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Lee Kim Shin said these efforts will help to mark Miri as a must-visit tourism destinatio­n for tourists from China.

“We have received visitors from two television stations from China who were in Miri for filming works. Thus, we hope the television crews from GuangDong Television Station will include Miri as the destinatio­n in their next filming project,” he said, when welcoming the arrival of GuangDong Television crews to the city for a two- day, one-night visit at Meritz Hotel yesterday.

Lee said the television crews were here for reconnaiss­ance in Miri before proceeding to similar commitment­s in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

During the same function, he briefed the visitors about Sarawak as well as shared interestin­g informatio­n on what Miri city can offer China tourists.

He highlighte­d Sarawak and Miri in particular as a unique multi ethnic destinatio­n where which is rich with different cultural practices.

GuangDong Television Station television host Fong Maqing said they would bring back all the input that they have received to their top management.

“Looking at the potential of Miri, there are many things that we can use as the subject for our television programme.

“Thus, it is important for us to come here and see for ourselves the potential for our next television programme project. On this effort, we will definitely work hand-in-hand with local tourism operators and the tourism board here.”

Also present were Miri mayor Adam Yii, Society of the Asia Pacific Entreprene­urs Alliance (APEA) president K K Tham and Meritz Hotel general manager John Teo.
