Masing, Dr Sim say Jamilah a good choice for Tanjong Datu

KUCHING: Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu will be a good mentor to her children who may be interested in running for the Tanjong Datu seat in the future.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing, in stating this, applauded and supported Jamilah who has been named as the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Tanjung Datu by-election.

“It is a good choice made by BN. The way I see it, she will be a good teacher to her children interested in taking over the seat. She has accepted the challenge. So I wish her (Jamilah) all the best,” the Deputy Chief Minister said when met at PBB headquarters here.

Jamilah’s candidacy was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also the president of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), after a meeting with party leaders of all BN component parties at the PBB headquarters along Jalan Bako here.

Masing assured that PRS will do their best to ensure Jamilah win comfortably come polling day on Feb 18 should there be a contest.

Meanwhile, Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, who also pledged full support to Jamilah, pointed out that her contributions and political works have been severely under-recognised.

“SUPP fully supports Jamilah as the candidate for N3 Tanjung Datu. She is a very experienced politician, having spent so much time on the ground and with the people together with he late husband Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem,” he said.

“It is an excellent choice. She is a politician who is very close to the people as she always goes down to the ground. We are confident that she will have the support from Tanjong Datu community,” he added.

As such, Dr Sim, who is also Local Government Minister, called on the 1,700 Chinese voters in Tanjong Datu to vote for Jamilah so that she can continue with Tok Nan’s legacy.

“There are so many things that Tok Nan wanted to do and even in such a short period of time as the chief minister, he had brought tremendous development to the area,” he said.

“But there are still many incomplete projects and areas that need to be tackled. Jamilah is definitely the best BN candidate that we can have,” he added.
