Sibu west bank pipelines to be upgraded under 11th Malaysia Plan

-

SIBU: Sibu Water Board ( SWB) is planning to upgrade the existing pipelines at Sibu west bank area in stages starting this year under the 11th Malaysia Plan.

SWB general manager Sudin Jaya said this would solve problems caused by aging pipelines in the area. He said this in a statement in response to articles in Chinese newspapers, Jan 18 issues, regarding water supply interruption to part of Sibu west bank on Jan 14 and 15.

He said the interruption was due to the bursting of a 400mm diameter water main near Oya Polyclinic here. “However, the water supply to the affected areas resumed to normal after the completion of repair work on Jan 15.

“The board had stopped the practising of pressure controlling to Sibu west bank areas since early 201 after the upgrading of existing 160mm diameter high density polyethylene pipe to 250mm diameter ductile iron pipe from Sibu West Booster Station to Empawah area,” he explained.

He also said that in order to get immediate response to any water supply issues in the same area, the board had taken an initiative to install the monitoring devices at the west bank.

“It is so that we are able to monitor the supply system closely from time to time,” he added.
