KUALA LUMPUR: Fujifilm Holdings Corporation (Fujifilm), a world leader in imaging, information and document technologies targets Southeast Asia and Malaysia in general among emerging markets to power its globalisation.

Fujifilm chairman and chief executive officer Shigetaka Komori said that Fujifilm will work hard to expand and make its market presence in Malaysia even stronger as its Malaysian unit celebrated 25 years of success.

Established in 1991, Fujifilm Malaysia grew from a photographic film centric enterprise with 40 employees to a RM250 million business today, employing 140 people in three branches, 380 direct outlets and over 2,000 dealers throughout Malaysia and leadership positions in photo imaging, medical, graphic, industrial, recording media and life sciences.

Speaking at Fujifilm Malaysia’s 25th anniversary celebration dinner officiated by Datuk Hamzah Zainudin, Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism, Komori said that Fujifilm continued to stay ahead as the market leader in photo imaging, medical and graphics sector by constantly introducing new products while foreseeing changes in market needs and technological trends.

Photographic film was Fujifilm’s biggest source of revenue since its founding in 1934. The photographic film market shrank significantly following the rapid adoption of the digital camera over conventional cameras.

“We managed to overcome the crisis by drastically transforming our business structure and creating new businesses. While thus diversifying our business portfolios, we have also been able to maintain our position as a market leader in our core businesses.

“We are constantly introducing innovative and competitive products and services using leading edge and proprietary technologies to help enhance the quality of life. I am confident that, with all these wide-ranging product line- ups, Fujifilm can make significant contribution to the growth of various markets,” he added.

According to Komori, imaging remains the ‘heart and soul’ of Fujifilm and the company had kept track of the rapid advent of the smart phone era, offering its Instax range of cameras and printers especially catered to the younger generation for them to enjoy attractive photo and print capabilities.

Fujifilm Malaysia has to date opened two Wonder Photo Shops encourage young people to print photos from smartphones in a fun and creative environment.

Moving forward, Fujifilm will soon unveil a showroom in Shah Alam which will give business partners and customers a firsthand experience of Fujifilm’s rich variety of leading- edge technologies and new products.

Fujifilm Malaysia managing director, Yoshitaka Nakamura also thanked the business partners, customers and employees for their loyalty and trust, which had enabled the company to celebrate 25 years of unparalleled achievement within the industry.

“We would like to thank our employees and partners for the successes that Fujifilm has achieved in the past 25 years,” said Nakamura.

“This milestone is a testament to Fujifilm’s commitment to continued innovation, and to the future of the company, our partners and the industry. Looking ahead, we are confident of continuing our ascent to even greater heights.”
