‘Abang Johari capable to lead Sarawak beyond 2020’

KUCHING: His long service as a minister and assemblyman are undeniably the main reasons why Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg is the most suitable candidate to fill in the vacant post of the number one man- the Chief Minister of Sarawak.

Penghulu Suhaili Kipli of Kampung Santubong believed Abang Johari is capable to lead Sarawak into a developed state and beyond 2020.

“But Abang Johari needs to fulfill the expectations of just about everyone, the Ibans, Bidayuhs, Malays, Chinese and other races in the state. The job is tough but I believe he has the wisdom to go through the tough task,” said Suhaili.

He added that while Abang Johari had a long track record in serving the people, his new position means bigger responsibility and mandate, and this is why he needs to be careful in his decisions.

“The legacy that is left behind by Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem must be continued by Abang Johari and he must uphold Adenan’s legacy of being the chief minister for everyone,” said Suhaili.

Meanwhile, 30-year- old entrepreneur Al- Azfar Sallam said Abang Johari should continue Adenan’s quest for greater autonomy to the state.

“He should not leave Adenan’s unfinished tasks but to continue where he left. At the same time look into social development and sports, as this is a key area which can win the hearts of the people especially the younger generation.

“At the same time, the standard of living is a major concern for everyone and this is where Abang Johari should focus too,” he said.

For 44-year- old assistant manager Wahidi Padupai, Abang Johari needs to assure everyone that he is a chief minister for all.

“No race is more important than others and it is the duty of the chief minister to take care of everyone. That is a fact.
