Shopping malls gear up to welcome Year of Rooster
KUALA LUMPUR: With the Chinese New Year around the corner, shopping malls in the Klang Valley are busy adorning their premises with various decorations to usher in the Fire Rooster Year.
At the popular Sungei Wang Plaza in Jalan Bukit Bintang here, a large lotus flower pond with nine koi fishes has been placed at ‘the atrium’ to greet customers since last Thursday (Dec 29).
With the theme ‘Abudance and Prosperity’, the mall’s interior, meanwhile, saw red lanterns with koi fish motives dangling from the ceiling, besides a majestic stage with Chinese traditional arches that was placed at the centre of the mall to enhance the festive mood for shoppers.
Mall manager, Yuen May Chee said the main entrance in conjunction with the festive mood was turned into ‘dragon gate’ portraying nine koi fish ascending upwards to greet shoppers and tenants to the triumphant new year.
“The number nine and lotus symbolises longevity and the koi fish is believed will bring prosperity and abundance for all,” she told reporters after the gate’s launching ceremony yesterday.
Yuen said cultural performances including Lion Dance, Mask Changing Performances and Art and craft workshops from 10am to 10pm would also be organised at the mall throughout the celebration.
“The mall will also hold a Chinese Cultural Exhibition on Concourse Level with traditional performance and fun games from Feb 6 to Feb 12,” she said.
In Petaling Jaya, the One Utama Shopping Mall is featuring the “Great Hall of the People, Beijing,”, the famous cultural and historical official assembly hall in China as its main decoration.
Its general manager, Patrick So said shoppers could enjoy grand decorations of magnificent stage and structure, modelled after the Main Auditorium of the Great Hall of the People, Beijing at the centre of the shopping mall.
With the theme ‘Prosper in Spring’, he said the mall had arranged multiple programmes such as award winning acrobatic lion dance performances, festive shopping, auspicious rewards and competitions. — Bernama
