KUCHING: New football chief Dato Posa Majais is not expecting miracles from Sarawak in the new Super League season by finishing among the top teams.
Under no illusions for an overnight change of fortunes, the newly appointed Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) president will be contented if the Crocs improve by two or three rungs up the table standings from the eighth position out of 12 teams last season.
He felt that most importantly, the realistic goal is that Sarawak can stay up in the league for the next season (2018).
“It is very tough for the team to finish among the top as the Super League is very highly competitive.
“If we can do that, it will be considered an achievement,” he said after being appointed as the new president at the FAS extraordinary general meeting at a local hotel here yesterday.
The appointment brought an end to the speculation of who would fill the hot seat after Posa’s predecessor Datu Sudarsono Osman stepped down from the post last year and did not seek re-election.
“Furthermore, the new team comprises 80 per cent of players who are young and inexperienced,” said Posa.
“We still need the services of the foreign imports but we are striving towards having a team which is 100 per cent made up of local players,” he said.
Posa humbly requested the exco members and divisional affiliates to guide and work closely with him to manage the new Sarawak team.
“For me, shouldering the responsibility for this post is no easy task when it is considered as the ‘hot seat’ in the association which is very close to the heart of the state football supporters and to the Sarawak people as a whole.
“I would like to convey my thanks and gratitude to all those who have placed their trust in me to lead FAS in the new season and I sincerely hope that together with your high commitment and cooperation, it will bring our beloved ‘Ngap Sayot’ team to greater heights,” added Posa.
He has also promised to bring changes to not only FAS but also at the divisional level.
Posa is no stranger to the Sarawak football scene as he was a former FAS vice president in 2009.
He was re-appointed as vice president in 2011 but left.
The current Sarawak Super League team manager, Posa also managed the Crocs for the Malaysia Cup in 2009, the state’s President’s Cup squad in 2009 and 2010 as well as Sarawak Sukma futsal team for six times.
