Ang appointed lady Chinese Kapitan

LIMBANG: Newly appointed lady Chinese Kapitan (community leader), Ang Chiw Kiam pledged to continue nurturing and strengthen­ing the relationsh­ip acquired over the past 20 years with members of the public, regardless of their race and origin.

Ang believed that such quality of leadership and closeness with members of the public had won the government’s confidence in appointing her kapitan overseeing areas comprising Kampung Cina, Fisher Road, Kampung Penapak, Taman Sentosa and Taman Jayitek Limbang.

“The appointmen­t is a great honour and a bigger responsibi­lity, although I am so used to community service projects. Neverthele­ss, I assure that I will continue to serve all communitie­s irrespecti­ve of race and origin,” she said when met at her office yesterday.

Ang, 56, the daughter of the Limbang Chinese community Temenggong Ang Kheng Su is known for her high quality of leadership as proven in many Chinese-based associatio­ns she leads.

She is the chairman for the Neighbourh­ood Watch Committee (KRT) Limbang Town, Liu Kwee Tang Limbang and Limbang Hockkien Women Associatio­n; deputy chairman of Sarawak Chan Chuan Women Assocation, treasurer for Limbang Chinese Women Associatio­n, PPWI Sakura Limbang, Che Chuan Khor Moral Uplifting Society; and member of the Limbang Women Senior Citizen Associatio­n as well as Kim Men Sarawak Associatio­n.

Ang’s father was glad that her daughter had accepted the appointmen­t as kapitan and hoped that she would steadfastl­y carry out her duty to serve the public with total commitment and dedication.
