German electricity and technology solutions for rural areas

-

KUALA LUMPUR: German technology providers and experts in the field of decentralised, isolated and off- grid power generation through renewable energy gathered in Kuala Lumpur to share their experiences and introduced their projects, solutions and technical expertise in the area to the local industry players.

Under the Programme “Energy Solutions – Made in Germany”, which is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, the MalaysianGerman Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( MGCC) organized a 3- day Renewable Energy Symposium “Decentralised Power Generation – Hybrid-Solutions and Isolated Applications with a Focus on Solar PV and Mini-Hydro” in Kuala Lumpur recently.

This event aimed to present German technology solutions and expertise to all stakeholders from both the private and public sectors in renewable energy related fields in Malaysia, particularly those engaged in and/or looking into decentralised and off-grid power generation through renewable energy.

Due to the high cost of grid extensions, the goal of a 100 percent electricity access for all, especially for those living in the interiors, is very challenging to fulfil.

Therefore, the production of electricity through renewable sources, such as through decentralized hybrid- or isolated applications – so- called island solutions, is necessary to narrow the gap between urban and rural disparities.
