Talent fundamental to business services sector success

-

KUALA LUMPUR: As the business services sector is knowledgeintensive, access to high-quality talent is fundamental to its success, Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI) director Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam said.

He said a vibrant and robust business services sector would be beneficial as it is a high valueadded concern.

Specialised business services are highly differentiated, providing a range of high-value skills and services, he added.

“This subsequently translates intohigherwagestocommensurate with Malaysia’s ambition of moving into a high-income nation,” he said in his welcoming keynote address at the Chief Financial Officers ( CFO) Summit 2016 yesterday.

On the role of CFOs,Navaratnam said they must be professional and independent in their thinking to avoid being left behind.

He said CFOs must not tolerate corporate misconducts and should ensure that company statements not only met regulatory requirements but also were of high standard and quality.

“As a major driver, as well as accountant and adviser to your company, you have an important duty to ensure that all the financial statements can be trusted.

“This is not a light responsibility as failure to recognise the weight of this role can severely undermine investors interest and public confidence,” he said. Themed ‘ Sustaining Competition in the New Economy: A Catalyst for Accelerating Growth’, the one- day summit was aimed at exploring the thoughts of the masters of finance world from both public and private organisations. — Bernama
