99 pct of students, parents accept PT3 markings — P Kamalanathan

-

NINETY-NINE per cent of students and parents have accepted the style of marking by teachers in the Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3 ( PT3) examination, said Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan.

He said this was proven when only 3,000 out of the 400,000 students taking the PT3 examination applied for a review of the examination papers.

“The aspect raised was on the uneasiness of parents with the marking style of teachers who set the questions and so on.

“Actually, when we gave the teachers the power to check the question papers, it gave the recognition and trust to them to make the evaluation for themselves although initially there were anxieties, the teachers’ trust on the marking system,” he told the Dewan Rakyat sitting, here yesterday.

He said this when replying to a supplementary question from Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom ( BN- Kubang Pasu) on the dissatisfaction of some parents on the results of the examination which was described as not ref lecting the actual results.

Kamalanathan also said the question of being hasty in the implementation of the PT3 did not arise because the element of HighLevel Thinking Skills ( KBAT) was strongly emphasised.

“The KBAT aspect was included in the teaching and learning in Form One in 2012.

This means that when they entered Form Three in 2014, they were prepared to face the PT3 examination and the KBAT elements,” he said.

He said the ministry always took steps to improve the PT3 including providing the script examination training module and improving teacher training in constructing the item HighLevel Thinking Skills ( KBAT).

Kamalanathan said the PT3 was first implemented in 2014 and formed the Central Evaluation component found in the SchoolBased Evaluation ( PBS). — Bernama
