Bookaroo fest to tour schools for joy of reading

KUCHING: A festival aimed at promoting the joy of reading among children will be held this month.

Pustaka Negeri Sarawak will hold the inaugural Pustaka Bookaroo Children’s Literature Festival on March 28 and 29 at the Sarawak State Library in associatio­n with Bookaroo Trust, New Delhi, India.

The festival will give children and booklovers a chance to meet and interact with distinguis­hed local and foreign children’s books authors, illustrato­rs and storytelle­rs – all in one place.

It will also include Bookaroo in the City ( BIC); the outreach programme where well known children’s writers visit schools throughout the city to spread the joy of reading.

From March 23 to 27, speakers will visit nearly 20 schools, including SK Tabuan, PERKATA, SMK Santubong and SJK ( C) Bintawa to treat children to a variety of programmes such as storytelli­ng sessions, interactiv­e talks and hands- on arts and crafts workshops.

The patron of this festival is the Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu.

The festival is open to members of the public and admission is free.
